Hawk914 Posted January 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2007 My Grandfather worked at Curtiss Wright here in Buffalo, working on the P-40 and C-46 lines. I also recently discovered some evidence that he may have been involved in the licensed-production of P-47s as well. (What a failure that was) Whenever I see photos of Curtiss plants in Buffalo I always hope to catch a glimpse of Gramps, but no joy yet... Anyhoo, I've been meaning to pick up this ish of LIFE but haven't actually seen what's in the Curtiss Wright article until now... thanks for posting these! Fade to Black... General Apathy Posted February 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted February 10, 2007 Hi Black-wolf3945, you make mention that you like the P-40 and that your grandad worked on the line there, here is a little P-40 WWII tie pin that I have, thought you may like to see it. Cheers ( Lewis )

My grandfather worked there too! (I'm originally from Buffalo). He was a machinist for Curtiss and too old to serve in the military. He fell down an elevator shaft at the plant and broke his back. Didnt seem to bother him too much as he lived to 94! CB
Gregory Posted May 24, 2007 Share #14 Posted May 24, 2007 Wow! My favourite early P-40Bs and Cs! Thank you Craig What is fascinating for me is a mix of yellow zinc chromate primer on the aluminum surfaces with strange dark blue color. What is this?
