uplandmod Posted February 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2014 One of my favorite and sought after coats. Belonging to a Marine in the 2nd Armored Amphibious Battalion. This group drove the LVT-(A)4 Amtracks that led the Assault troop LVT's to shore before the landings. Split up into four companies, his "C" company was in charge of leading the 4th MarDiv at Blue Beach II at Iwo Jima. His MOS was LVT commander and he also landed at Saipan. Still need a few items to add but overall completed. All the patches are original to the coat. Leonardo

uplandmod Posted February 20, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted February 20, 2014 Thanks everyone! Yes it was an Ebay pick up from last year. I never got around to publishing here as I am still trying to get some last bits for it to complete the restoration. I received his file already. I made a mistake last night he was in Company "A". Here is a photo of a LVT from his unit. They have the "A" prefix as part of the number markings. I would love to know what his LVT was named, but unfortunately it might already be lost to history. I'm not really a vehicle or tank guy, they really don't do anything for me but I do have an unhealthy obsession LVT's, always been one of my favorite WWII Vehicles. There used to be two of them in somebody's front yard here locally when I was growing up as a kid, they have since been bought and sold. Owning an Iwo Jima LVT related coat was top on my list and am very happy I found one. Thanks again! LF

Kurt Barickman Posted February 26, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2015 There is a battalion history of that unit you need to get. It is by FAR the best history done on any USMC WWII unit. Kurt
uplandmod Posted February 26, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted February 26, 2015 Yes I remember seeing it on ebay as a disc, I still need to pick that up. I actually talked with a vet with that unit who was also at Saipan and Iwo. incredible interview! Leonardo
