It's almost that time again, the annual militaria event of events is only 3 short months away. If you haven't already, I would recommend getting your hotels booked as they are filling up fast. I booked mine back in July and had to go with my third choice for hotel.

Link to OVMS SOS page...

1canpara and sgtdorango will be setting up with me at the back end of row BB.

Look forward to seeing everyone again and hunting up some more great items.

While we are at it, who else is already booked and ready to go?

I'm planning on it (and I think I have hotel reservations taken care of) but am not 100% like I usually am...I kind of went crazy on Lugers lately and that cut into my Show of Shows funds pretty drastically..

No bookings for me but I'll be doing my usual Friday run; leaving home at 3am, driving 5 hours, 7 or 8 hours at the show and back home by 11pm. Worth every mile!

Has there been any mention of who the veteran guests might be at the next SOS? Meeting the vets is always one of my favorite parts of the show.

Due to the age of the veteran guests, any list of attendees is subject to change at any time.  Last year one of the guests passed away within days of the show.  On a happier note, sometimes they simply get up the morning of the trip and decide that they really don't feel up to hopping on a plane that day.  So, don't plan your trip based on the veteran guests.  They all try very hard to be there, and by some miracle most of the time they do make it and have a great time at the event, but no guarantees.

That being said, I will try to get an updated list from Larry Eads and post it up here for you.

If you have never met Cpl Rosser, he is a blast to talk with. Look forward to talking with him again. He was with the 38th IR in Korea and our honorary CSM for the 38th's second tour to Iraq.

Working on my travel plans now and can't wait to be there again.

Yes.  Do not have the time yet, but will confirm here when we have the start time for this.

Each dealer will have two special Wednesday Night ID badges in his packet.  This gets each dealer and one (only 1) helper access to the hall on Wednesday night to drop off their stuff.  The window will not be long (can't be starting the show on Wednesday, after all), but will be plenty of time for you to get in line, get your stuff, drive in, drop off, and get back out.

For technical reasons relating to running the cash registers, all packet pick-up will be at the front of the hall.  So, stop by the front and pick up your packet first, before going to the back and getting in the drive-in line.

Thank you Jeff for the list. I would make the trip to the SOS without the veteran guests being there but meeting them is always one if my favorite parts of the show. After all, this "stuff" will be around for decades but these heroes will not. That is a great list and I look forward to meeting those who attend the event.

I did not realize that one of the scheduled guests passed away before the show last year. Do you mind saying who that was? If not, no worries. Thanks again!

I'm ashamed to say, I don't recall.  The veterans are not my department, and I was fully engaged in the debut performance of our new layout and set-up procedures.. following that, for the rest of the show I was so ill I could barely remain vertical (which is why I declined to shake hands last year.)

Larry Eads handles the veteran guests, and does a super job with it.  He travels around to various functions throughout the year recruiting, but more often than not his problem is that there are more veterans who want to attend than we have room (or $$) for.  Fortunately, a few of the vendors have been picking up the tab for some of the veterans as individual sponsors, which is tremendously appreciated.  I believe Bill Shea has already committed to be a sponsor this year.

I will be glad to ask Larry for you.

We also have some nice veteran interviews up on the sosovms.com website, and will be posting more shortly.

I will be there again this year.  The new larger floorplan gives me tables at T18-20 smack dab in the middle of the room.

I would not miss it.

I will be there for my SOS's in about 8 years.  Hoping to acquire a few medals and USO-Camp Shows material.
