subsystem4 Posted February 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2014 I'm not sure what these are. I got them in a pile of misc patches that i bought to get the two navy rates that were in it. The rest of the stuff was mostly air force patches and a few army SSI.

atb Posted February 1, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 1, 2014 Those were worn on uniform shoulder loops by US Army troops on leave in Japan from Korea during the Korean War. The green one is a leadership tab.

firefighter Posted February 1, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2014 Patches. Interesting information and cool pics in that thread. So if these were used while on leave in Japan from the combat zone were they issued in Korea or Japan and where the turned back in when the soldier returned? patches Posted February 2, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2014 In the memo it does state that Procurment will be done at Post Exchanges upon receipt of orders, meaning the Soldier bought them, PX, probably one if he was Infantry ways away after he was pulled off the line to go on R&R. so here i gather he brought them with him, and depending on where Class As or Khaki were issued to R&R bound Troops. Pusan? Japan? put them on, since he bought them one would think he kept them.

patches Posted February 2, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2014 On the other hand, see this photo, one I found on line and posted awhile ago. Here we see a two brothers, one from KCOMZ with the loops, the other who looks like a trainee of the 6th Armd Div, the 6th Armd Div at that time was a training division located at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. The photo most likely was taken when the one brother from KCOMZ was either home on leave or has been discharged, and was home just at the time his brother finished Basic. If this is true, then the loops could be worn by some outside of Japan even Stateside.
seanmc1114 Posted July 13, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 13, 2014 Here's another photo of two brothers wearing the Korea tabs, the one on the left wearing his DUI's over the map of Korea. Notice that all three examples posted by subsystem4 are all oriented the same way with the "leg" of the Korean peninsula perpendicular to the "A" in "KOREA". This is opposite the orientation of the the tab on the right shoulder of the soldier on the right in my picture. This suggests they were manufactured in mirrored pairs. If this is true, then the loops could be worn by some outside of Japan even Stateside. The tab looks like the light blue version which I assume was worn by anyone not entitled to wear the green leadership tab.
Lee Ragan Posted July 13, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 13, 2014 These tabs are discussed in the latest ASMIC Trading Post. (July - Sept. 2014 issue.) LTC Bill Emerson wrote the article. Another good reason to join ASMIC if your going to collect any type insignia.
CNY Militaria Posted July 13, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 13, 2014 These tabs can be found in bullion as well. I have a nice blue background bullion embroidered set.
seanmc1114 Posted July 14, 2014 Share #15 Posted July 14, 2014 I don't know if this is legitimate or not, but this one comes from a current listing on e-Bay. It appears to be hand-embroidered. http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Army-Pathfinder-Airborne-Korea-Tab-Korean-Made-Note-Paper-back-Path-finder-33-/231277657470?ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:3160
