GeneralLucas Posted January 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2014 About 1992 I had an ad in a local paper in Dallas, TX looking for WW II AAF items including wings. A widow of a WW II AAF flight surgeon sold me his collection of aviation wings. I noticed this picture of an airman and she said that was "Army Armstrong" as we called him. She gave me this picture. I never knew his first name and tried to research him and found info on a famous pilot which was KIA Col. John William Armstrong who went by "Army Armstrong" and even though he was from Dallas, I have ruled him out as he started at West Point in late 1945. What we do know is that he is appears to be wearing a British Type "C" flight helmet and was probably based out of England. Research shows several airmen with this nick name.....but we know this is a picture of Airman Armstrong..............
