Sorry I missed this earlier.  According to the Navy Abbreviation list ACEPD -- Automotive and Construction Equipment Part Depot.

 

CUB 7 would have been an  a medium sized advanced fuel and supply base.  However, can't find a CUB 7.

Yes, I would agree.  I knew Stacey, Helvey and Tucker as well.  They certainly were pillars of the USN collecting community.  And I have really appreciated your huge input to this forum.  I have learned so much from your input over the years.  Thank you!

You mentioned you have four published reference works.  I'll be checking your website for info. on them.

Thank you for the nice comments. I forgot to list two other "rate collectors" that I knew for over 25 years, but they have passed. Garth Thompson, who was from Memphis, TN, and I would see him at shows in Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL. Garth knew a lot of "odd ball" facts about USN rating badges. If I remember correctly, he was interested in USMC items a lot, also.

I also corresponded with Don Thompson a couple of times before he passed quite a long time ago. I purchased a set of Specialist "H" crows from Don's son after Don passed.

I shared photos of those with John Stacey, it was the first time I learned that manufacturers and tailors pre-produced specialist "diamond" rating badges without a letter in them and would later add letters as needed for a uniform installation. John surmised that is where the, likely never implemented, Specialist-H rating badge set came from.

I've never come across a photo of anyone wearing a ESR "H" rating badge. I have heard some reference about the ESR-H being briefly used around Long Beach, California, but I've forgotten the context.

Here is my one and only. WWII Master at Arms badge for the USS Kalinin Bay. The badge is made from a heavy paper encased in plastic.
