The local parks commission has repurposed the buildings as their headquarters, and has thereby preserved them. http://www.historicisleofwight.com/nike-park.html If you listen to the attached video, the narrator gives a history of the defenses on the island dating back to the colonial period. His perspective on the Civil War is somewhat unique. Eventually the last third of the narrative is on the Nike site with some memories shared from a soldier who was stationed there.
