This from a topic up in Uniforms, a DI of the 20th Transportation Battalion on a circa 1950s-60s Officer Khaki Uniform.

As we see this one above is way differant than the one depicted below. Is the one above the first version, with the one below a new design, or visa versa? No info on these DI are are found over a TIOH, Thanks in Advance for any help.

This is the best info I could find, does not explain the red DUI- http://www.usarmygermany.com/Sont.htm?http&&&www.usarmygermany.com/units/Transportation/USAREUR_20thTransBn.htm

Perhaps a German made variant for no aparrant reason or an early proposed DUI as the unit seems to have been activated in 1957 under the 8th ID. An interesting puzzle as I could not find another unit using that motto.

Perhaps that might be it, the all White one a local made localy approved design, that became more popular than the Army Autherized type? I say that because the one on the Shoulder Loops of the coat shows the traits of an approved Transportation Unit DI, 1: it's design seems taken from it's Coat of Arms which is typical, and 2: it's in the Branch Colors of the Transportation Corps, Brick Red and Gold. The other DI shows no such traits, it even has the Atomic Symbol added, maybe signifiying the PENTOMIC organization of the Golden Arrow Division of the day?

I had not thought about the coat of arms. I have pinback and screwback insignia belonging to the 38th IR done with both the coat of arms and current style DUI, seems the unit switch back and forth a few times on what was authorized for wear. Ironically I have some 50s Ike's with the coat of arms being worn, coincidence to the tan uniform?

Most units have there Unit Crests based on their Coat of Arms, like your 38th Inf, the one version is just a more stylized version than the other version.

Could you post in a new separate topic your Screwback and Pin Back versions of this DI, the Stylised one? It would be interesting to see these in that form.

This one.

Found alittle more info on the 20th Trans Bn, the White Crest was in use at least by 1960, as it's seen here in this poster, bottom right.

But by 1967 it was no longer with the 8th Inf Div as seen in the 8th Div's 1967 Unit line up, it's out of Division at least by 1965, it's place taken by the 8th Supply and Transportation Battalion, I think this reshuffle was a ROAD reorganization, as after 1963-64 Transportation Battalions are no longer a part of Infantry or Armored Divisions , but rather Army or Corps level units, their places taken in the Combat Division by S&T Battalions.
