topdcnut Posted December 30, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted December 30, 2013 Could these have been with this Dui?
patches Posted December 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2013 Could these have been with this Dui? If they came with the DI, sure, they are from the same period, the Crossed Rifles with L would be for a Company L in an Infantry Regiment, L Companies being in the Regiment's 3rd Battalion, in this case L Company 71st Infantry. topdcnut Posted December 30, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks for all the help, nice armory pic. That building is huge, I realize an army unit needs office, classroom and assembly space but that seems over the top. Anyone know what the tower was for? patches Posted December 30, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks for all the help, nice armory pic. That building is huge, I realize an army unit needs office, classroom and assembly space but that seems over the top. Anyone know what the tower was for? T/Y John The tower was just a design style really. These Armories in NYC were large indeed, most are gone, like the 71st Inf's torn down in 1970. The large size was a hallmark of not only NYC Armories but one I gather built in the late 19th Century-early 20th Century in all large Major cities, the main feature was it's Drill Hall, they were expansive. Here's the Regiment marches out to go to their Summer Drill, late 40s, 1949?. This photo here gives a better view of the Armory's hugh size.
