Large DUI

Hi,

I think I read recently about a large sized DUI that was apparently used for saddle blankets. Would the attached VN-period (Meyer 22M) DUI (51.5mm wide) be such an example? It's shown next to a regular sized DUI for comparison.

Regards

Mike

This is the "pumkin" or a drill sergeant badge, its worn on the breast and is bigger than a DUI cause its a badge. I don't know the full history of it, how it was worn and when over the times, but it is still worn today by soldiers that were DS or are currently a DS.

Thanks for the ID guys, many thanks.

Re the saddle blanket DI, someone recently showed an image of an oversized ?Marine General's Aid "badge" (enamelled shield with stars and an eagle sitting on top) that was ID'd as possibly being used on saddle blankets. Someone else showed a pic with what appeared to be an Infantry Regiment DUI on a saddle blanket. Despite searching I can't find the thread. The thousands of new highly specialised sub forums that I woke up to one morning recently are serious overkill and I can hardly find anything these days - VERY frustrating.

Regards

Mike

A couple threads I found with reference to such. Both are referencing insignia from when there was active Cavalry. The badges you have shown are way modern for such a use.

side note: the 22M hallmark was used into the 90s until Meyer stopped making insignia.

As for the forum, think of it like a book. There was no chapters before, now we have chapters to reference specific items and the mods have 10s of thousands of post to sort. Use google if you can't find the active thread.
