Old Marine Posted May 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2008 I picked this up at the flea market. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but this is the first black handled one I have ever seen that is marked TL-29. It has the brass spacers and is made by Camillus. Is this a WWII knife? Any comments or observations would be appreciated. Thanks Dennis

TrentRock Posted May 13, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2008 From another forum I am on The requirement for the marked shield was dropped on 8/5/42 with the TL-29 being impressed into the wood directly. All the various specifications were rewritten into one dated 5/25/1945 falling under Army Signal Corps Specification 71-569, it was now standardized. During the changeover from military to government wide specifications it was redrawn on 5/5/1954 and standardized as the MIL-K-13419 (SigC). At that change among other things they required the impressed TL-29 should be filled with a permanent white filler and varnished on top. This helps to date post war models as being filled with some color, white or gold. I've owned about 10 TL-29 type knives and none of them have had TL-29 on the handle The oldest one I have is: M. Klein Sons Chicago,USA I can't see the picture of the knife open If you show me a picture of the Camillus stamp I can give you am unofficial date range.... Rustykamel Posted May 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi, A TL-29 with a black handle was issued to Marine wiremen during the early 1960's. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Jim

TrentRock Posted May 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2008 According to my sources That tang stamp was used from 1960-1976 Vietnam Era as you guys like to say I have a couple with the same stamp but no TL-29 on the handle Now you need the rest of the "kit"!!! This tool is part of the CS-34 Case with a TL-29 pocket knife and a TL-13 plier in it.
ksp45 Posted May 20, 2008 Share #9 Posted May 20, 2008 i thought the rule of thumb was that the black handle ones were all post war,and that the wooden handled ones with 4 rivits per side were ww2,btw i have a woodhandled ww2 kutmaster with tl-29 stamped on it
