ken1967 Posted January 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2007 It seems that regardless of what time in history we look at, businesses and advertisers have always found a way to get on board with any movement to push their products. WWII seemed to be a time of some of the most prolific advertising to let the American public know what a business was doing for the war effort. I've bought several of these over the last three years and have really enjoyed collecting them. If anyone has some of these, please share them on this thread! The one Western electric one with the tanker & .50 cal I saw the original artwork at a Chicago antique store years ago priced at $1,500 It was a bit damaged from time, but I should have bought it. I always wondered what ad that was for. I have a small stack of these I keep meaning to frame. Many of the ads came from LIFE and LOOK magazines. Most are from manufacturers of heavy machinery, components, chemicals,railroad, ship builders, and aircraft builders, along with the usual liquor, tobacco, and clothing ads one will see. The artwork is varied from stark realism to cubism to impressionistic styles. Most of the artist/illustrators were classically trained and it shows in their work.
