On December 7, 1942, the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard placed commemorative overstamps on war bonds issued at the Yard. The bond below was issued to Miss Elizabeth Schmidt daughter and payable on death to her father, Frederick William Schmdt. Fred Schmidt was a signalman stationed at the Naval Air Station at Kanehoe Bay on December 7, 1941. According to his account, he was on duty at the NAS on the morning of December 7. He was on the radio as the Japanese began to strafe the airfield. He remained in service after the war and retired as a CWO on December 7, 1961.
