Ricardo Posted December 3, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted December 3, 2013 He was a a late war guy and probably got the PUC for getting ashore during Okinawa. Kurt Hi Kurt, Thank you! I thought the 2nd Division had only Presidential Unit Citation with 2 Bronze Stars for Guadalcanal and Tarawa. Do you have more information about his service? Regards, Ricardo. Kurt Barickman Posted December 3, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 3, 2013 Yes that is technically true but I since I have handled quite a few WWII 2nd USMC Division items and their personnel files, I have found in more than a few cases, certain units and individuals of the 2nd were ashore on Okinawa and awarded the PUC as well as the 1st and 6th USMC Divisions; units are usually parts of the 8th and 10th regiments. Individuals on a case by case basis. The entire 2nd Division was offshore of Okinawa during the battle as corps reserve. A group from our MN association president who is now deceased has the PUC and file reflected that as well for being a BAR gunner on Okinawa and he too was a member of the 6th Regiment. American Heritage Posted December 3, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2013 Very nice uniform grouping Ricardo. His Service # was 988119. In April 1945 he is listed as a PVT in 2nd Bn. / 26th Infantry Regt, 5th Marine Division with MOS of 938 which is AAF Gunnery Instructor. I think this is a 938 and is the MOS but not 100% sure. In April 1946 he shows up as a CPL with 2/6, 2nd Mar Division, FMF PAC (In the Field) which matches your uniforms. his MOS was 745 or Rifleman and served as E Company Armorer. he was discharged July 1946 at Quantico, VA. uplandmod Posted December 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 3, 2013 It seems maybe the 2nd MarDiv was his mustering out Division which was common with many 5th MarDiv Marine vets. LF

The only thing that owned the name "Martin R Souders" is one of the ties that came in the group. Opinions, please. Ricardo.
