hhbooker2 Posted April 29, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 29, 2008 According to Bauman L. Belden, author of "WAR MEDALS OF THE CONFEDERACY," he stated this about The Davis Guard Medal: "For the defense of Sabine Pass, Texas, September 8, 1863. A Mexican silver dollar, each side smoothed off and engraved. Obverse. The letter D.G. below which is a rude cross of the form known as cross pattee. Reverse. The inscription in three lines: Sabine Pass - Sept. 8th - 1863.Border, on each side, a line, about one-eighth of an inch from the edge, from which groups of oblique lines extend to the edge. Loop for suspension." Below is a scan showing obverse and reverse sides of The Davis Guard Medal. Sarge Booker of Tujunga, (Southern) California ([email protected]) Link to comment
