Fireball Outfit Grouping - 751st BS, 457th Bomb Group - WWII B-17 Pilot

I wanted to share this little grouping I purchased directly from the family. Yesterday, I got a call from a lady that asked if I was interested in looking at some patches and pins found in a box. Her mother recently passed away and the box was found in her things. I met the woman in the local Home Depot parking lot and was able to come to terms. I didn't realize what I had until I was able to get home and dig through the box and do a little research. Included with the items photographed were also several other sets of prop/wings, US and Lt insignia.

The family is still going through things and promised to give me a call if they found anything else.

I put most of the items in a Riker mount and I think it's a great display to honor a WWII pilot that flew at least 33 mission as an AC in a B-17 with the 751st BS (according to the 457th BG website). I was also able to locate a couple crew photos of the pilot and his crew on-line.

My favorite items in the grouping are my first, attributed USMC/Navy 1/2" style ribbons, belonging to an Army Air Corps veteran. The matched sets of Luxenberg US and Propeller & Wings insignia are also my first. As you can see there are 3 matched sets of dog tags dating 42, 43 and 44. There is also an extra 42 tag. Also included were two matching sets of leather backed Lt insignias for a flight suit or leather jacket. The 3" pin back wings are marked Sterling/Meyer.

I will keep everyone posted if/when I receive another call!

I also thought it was neat that the day Kastauffer posted his Fireball Outfit grouping, I get a call to buy one!

Thanks for the comments! I too, am hoping for a second phone call. Since acquiring this group, I have talked to the daughter of another member of this crew. She shared some great crew photos.
