vintageproductions Posted October 6, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2013 I just received my new copy of Jay Borman's Book " LRRP's Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Photos". I am totally amazed at some of the Vietnam books that have been coming out lately, and was not disappointed at all with this one. Full of amazing photos that I have never seen before. This book was written for the veterans but Jay threw in cool things for collectors also. There are some photos in this book that most would say "No way never happened", and they will be amazed with what they see. This is a large, hard back book with slip color, and the photography is amazing. It is a limited printing of 500 books, and they won't last long. Jay took them to a LRRP reunion a few weeks ago and the veteran's loved it. As far as I am concerned that is the greatest compliment. This, like Jason Hardy's books are a must have for the serious Vietnam collector. http://www.lrrpphotos.com/
vintageproductions Posted October 6, 2013 Author Share #2 Posted October 6, 2013 I will add also that when I usually get a new book in, I will flip through the pages quickly and then go back later and look through it. When I opened this one I spent a few hours looking at each photo with my jaw hitting the floor on more then one occasion. Then Spikey came over to the shop the same down and I did the same thing again while he was looking at it. The 151st section is the coolest...... Jason_Hardy Posted October 7, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2013 I received a copy of the book from Jay, I have to say he really put his heart into it. It is large and in charge and I have it sitting on my office coffee table. He is also managing to capture first hand information from the veterans and personal quotes he placed in the book. I can only hope that collectors and future historians will appreciate his work. Keep up the good work........ Jason Hardy

63 RECON Posted October 10, 2013 Share #16 Posted October 10, 2013 Not really when you consider its awesomeness.........$175 + postage (which you cant fight) for over 1000 wartime photos, limited to 500 copies. I say treat yourself. Consider it an early Christmas present.
Sabrejet Posted October 10, 2013 Share #17 Posted October 10, 2013 bit pricey? Limited Edition + high quality + previously unpublished material = high ticket price. It's not rocket science.

It's not rocket science. yes thanks im sure this book is excellent im not doubting that at all just seems every vietnm refrence book that comes out now is only available online and at a high price and limited edtion as well ? gone are the days it seems when you could walk into a book shop and get the latest for under 20 quid
danangdave Posted October 15, 2013 Share #19 Posted October 15, 2013 i agree with aips like the sog books this one is another book for the rich. hope owen kammo man's forthcoming vietnam cammo book is not one of these kind of books.
vintageproductions Posted October 15, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted October 15, 2013 I too miss cheap reference books but unfortunately those days are over. Your average Schiffer published book is $50.00 to $85.00. The SOG Books and this LRRP book are self-published and are not cheap for the authors to do, let alone the time they have invested putting the books together. A $20.00 or 20 pound book will always be just that, a cheap reference book. These more focused, full color, with never before seen photos, will be the books of the future. Books are not cheap to produce and print, ask any publisher. Kammo-Man's book will be do different. It won't be a cheap "close-out" type book you find on the sale rack at your local book shop. It may be pricey, but again, its going to full of original photos, and photos of camo that have never been seen, plus it is going to be almost all in color. I have always been a firm believer that your reference library speaks volumes of your collection. I may have a few books I bought on the cheap, but the vast majority have cost me a lot of money. My theory is, once I buy a new book, all it takes is one photo to teach me what something is that has been in my unknown box, it the book will have paid itself off...... kriegsmodell Posted October 15, 2013 Share #21 Posted October 15, 2013 I certainly do not consider myself to be rich by any means but my copy arrived today. An amazing piece of reference work and of the highest quality as far as paper, binding, and construction. The book is signed & dated by the author and both the heavy slip cover (which is a very nice touch) and the book are numbered. It was also carefully protected and well packaged for shipping. Certainly not cheap but I am of the opinion that it is well worth the investment. My thoughts only ......
danangdave Posted October 15, 2013 Share #22 Posted October 15, 2013 i can understand the last two post's comments, and can appreciate that the books in question are of a high quality. but i cant help feel that such high priced books could discourage newcomers to the hobby rather than encourage them. imagine someone starting to take an interest in sog or lrrps and finding he has to shell out a small fortune to get the info he needs. a lot of collectors are teenagers, married men with kids, people on low income etc, books of this price are well out of reach for them. anyway thats my opinion for what its worth

I would be interested but for this price, I just can't afford it. While I can appreciate the effort to publish this book it appears to be geared toward an exclusive group of people who specialize in LRRP and not towards your every day collector who is interested in the Vietnam War. Longhorn92 Posted October 15, 2013 Share #25 Posted October 15, 2013 I'm with Kriegsmodell. I received my book two days after ordering and it's one of the best book presentations I've ever seen. Great layout, superb photos and an overall first class look. High quality and well worth the price.
