Wedgehead30 Posted September 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2013 A friend of mine sent me a photo of his Father's mess kit that he carried all throughout his service in WWII. His Dad was in the 72nd AAA Gun Battalion. He engraved every stop he made onto the bottom of the kit. He also "liberated" the pictured beer stein somewhere in Germany. Somehow he managed to carry it around for several months and get it home in one piece. Pretty cool........

Wedgehead30 Posted October 22, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted October 22, 2013 I recently got a copy of his Father's discharge. Well, what's left of it that is. Half of it is burned away from the fire they had. But there's enough information that I should be able to trace his service throughout the war. His Dad never talked about his time in the army so the family knows very little. Like a lot of vets he came home a resumed his life without skipping a beat nor with any fanfare.
