JDK Posted September 25, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2013 Here is a group that I picked up not long ago. Captain Berkshire flew with the 352nd FG (Bluenosers)He flew with the group from its' beginning until he was shot down on his 100th mission on June 27th 1944. He shared the groups 1st ever aerial victory on 11-26-1943. During the war he was credited with 6 aerial victories but after revisions years later he was downgraded to 4.5 victories. His official victories were .5 on 11-26-43 2 on 5-27-44 2 on 5-30-44He also damaged a Me-109 on 5-27-44 as well as a Me-410 on 6-20-44The nose art on his P-47 and P-51 is a pretty well known one "Brutal Lulu"The only information I have not been able verify is what happened to him after he was shot down. I have read report he was taken to a hospital in Berlin until the end of the war. I also read he was taken to a hospital in Berlin, but eventually escaped and evaded. By chance if anyone can add, it would be appreciated.Enjoy.JDThe grouping consists of his un-named but numbered medals, tons of paperwork (many with signatures of famous 352nd FG aces), his official flight log, his training flight log, wings, ribbon bars, a photo album (Roughly 70 photos) from training into combat, Id Cards, newsclippings in the photo album, some letters home, 2 flight school yearbooks, and a ww2 printed 487th squadron unit history. The squadron patch is a original, but not his.
