Blue Leader Posted September 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2013 Hi, I post here some of my WWII USAAF headgear : helmets, oxygen mask and goggles shown like they were used in combat. I collect items in perfect state, not always new but in very good condition. Mathieu Let 's go! This first head consists of an early summer flying helmet AN-H-15 from Bates Shoe with snaps attached by the rigger team and HS-38 earphones installed, an A-10 Revised oxygen mask dated from January 1943 equipped with a microphone ANB-MC1 and goggle B-8 made by Palaroid. The 2 hooks on each side of the flying helmet are specific to the A-10 Revised mask.

Tiger Posted September 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 23, 2013 You're right! Most of time these mask doesn't carried mic, and are more often associated to the laringophone T30. However very nice headset, in perfect conditions! Best, Tiger
Blue Leader Posted September 23, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted September 23, 2013 Thanks for your comments ! My second headgear consists of a flying helmet A-11 made by Bradley-Goodrich with headphones HS-38 and two unusual equipments : a first model of the oxygen mask A-14 from October 1943 and an aviation goggle 1065 equiped with an electrically heater lens and its cord +24V made by General Electric. Early A-14 masks have green-blue straps and the right hook fastening thinner than on the late model.

Blue Leader Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted September 24, 2013 The heated lens can be connected to the heater E-1 of the A-14 oxygen mask or to the F-2 and F-3 electrically heated flying suits. The F-2 jacket has a connection +24V accessible by the right pocket, the F-3 suit on the breast. A+ Mathieu
Stillwell Posted September 24, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 24, 2013 Fantastic set up blue leader! Just out of curiosity, when did the AN-H-15 and the A-11 flgiht helmets start coming out?
Blue Leader Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks ! AN-H-15 helmet starts to come out in April 1943 and A-11 in August 1943. Early models did not have snaps attached to the helmet. Riggers used the kit given with the oxygen mask to fix it. It seems that models with factory-set buttons are released a year later, in August 1944.
Blue Leader Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #19 Posted September 25, 2013 Here an another combination with an A-11 flying helmet, an A-14 oxygen mask and B-8 goggle. The helmet has his original snap buttons. The mask is from April 1944 and equiped with a T-44 microphone used generaly by the fighter pilots.
