I have tried to find information about the unit he served in during WW1. There isn't much out there about it. Any help would be appreciated. patches Posted August 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2013 The only thing so far I could find was this, a menu card, they were at Fort Meade Maryland in the spring of 1918. a farewell, where were they going? not to France it would seem. Its kind of odd that there isn't much information. In the last few years of his life my great grandparents that helped raise me and my brother took care of him. mars&thunder Posted September 1, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 1, 2013 Ozarkian - I have a booklet entitles ROSTER COMPANY C 324th Field Signal Battalion which lists an Albert Comba of Blue Eye, MO who is I suspect your relative (A is next to S on the keyboard and it would be an easy typo to make Combs into Comba). I did take a look at the Missouri WWI Service Record Cards database that is online and while there are plenty of Combs, no Albert or Comba. The booklet says he was in first section first detail which, based on the size of a section and a detail, seem analogous to 1st Platoon, 1st Squad. In a WWI Field Signal Battalion, Company C was the wire company and the largest of the companies since most communications were by wire. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I also bought a postcard on ebay of some soldiers standing in front of headquarters of the 324th FSB. I will post a better image of it when I get it. I appreciate your help. Thanks, Eric As per Post # 3, it appears it was Stateside, as it does not turn up in the Order of Battle of either Armies or Corps of the AEF, please go though the two links to double check, the Armies and Corps especially to see. The story I heard about my grandfather is that he was half way to Europe on a ship when the war ended and returned home. His name is Jesse A. Cullison. The unit was at Camp Mills getting ready to deploy overseas, but did not go.
