Burning Hazard Posted August 16, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2013 Hey all, I picked this jacket up waaays back in the 90's, even before Saving Private Ryan and BoB made US militaria popular. The jacket was part of a broken up lot belonging to a captain from the 3rd infantry division but, me being a young-stupid and poor teen, I could only afford this jacket and nothing else. Other items included ID, paperwork, some field gear and another cleaner M1941 field jacket... As you can see, the jacket is in rough shape. The inner wool lining was completely removed (I seen a handful of M1941 jackets with this modification). The original pocket tag is intact but very faint, it has a date of May 1942 and a size of 46R; the maker is hard to make out but I can make out something in lines of "Sportswear co". Zipper is Conmar and appears to be made of brass. The 3rd ID patch appears to be a cut edge that has been sown on there for a very long time. There is a lot of heavy discolouration on the jacket and some repair (see pics) It's been bugging me for years but I can't decide whether something like this is considered junk in our days due to so many fakes & resown patches out there, especially that the original paperwork and ID of the original owner is lost. hbtcoveralls Posted August 16, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 16, 2013 I for one love it. There's something about a "been there done that" piece that talks to me more than a mint example. Wish it was named, but I still think a 3rd ID collector would also love it for their collection Tom Bowers

Fiziwater Posted November 22, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 22, 2014 Just saw this so gonna put in my two cents. Given that it's hard to even find a decent M41 for sale, and even harder to find a dated one, not to mention what you'd have to pay, I'd say you're lucky to have it. "Junk" it's not! atb Posted November 22, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 22, 2014 What color is the border on the 3 ID SSI? It almost looks like Army Green.
