Afghan ANA "Combat Shirt"

I debated on posting this or not but people on another forum found it interesting. I hope its ok to post since it was made as a copy of the combat shirts US forces wore. I think its interesting because this is something individual Afghan soldiers would go out of their way to have made for themselves. They appeared to of been made more for style than anything else though since I mainly saw them worn around bases.

I saw these being worn here and there where I was in Kunar Province. ANA or sometimes Police would have them made by local tailors, so how they looked often differed a bit. Sometimes a different t-shirt (such as a regular brown one) was used or the sleeves were from a different uniform. I posted a photo below of one actually made from a US multicam combat shirt. But by far this was the most common combination I saw, the ANA shirt + "Afghan Commandoes" t-shirt. The "Afghan Commandoes" t-shirts were everywhere, even in the bazaars of more remote areas. They came in long and short sleeve and were often worn by the ANSF forces. They liked to see themselves as fighters so anything "commando" was popular. Some ANA would even wear ANA Commando unit patches even though they were regular infantry. "Are you a commando?"---"yes, yes, commando". Anyway I saw the ANA starting to have these made at a COP I was at so I went down to the tailor and had one made for myself. The tailor was usually pretty busy. He would make stuff such as hats for the ANA as well as repair and modify uniforms for them. I had one ANA friend who would wear a new modified uniform every month or two. My favorite thing I brought back was a uniform and some patches he gave me.

Combat shirt from a different tailor. This one has more material around the shoulders and different collar.

This shirt is actually made from a US multicam combat shirt.

That is very neat. I only saw a few terps wearing the t-shirts... never in this configuration. Does anyone know where you can buy one of these shirts or the combat shirt above?

Afghanistan, or very rarely from an American who brought one back to the US as a souvenir.

Keep checking eBay. The Commando t-shirts used to show up a year or two ago and occasionally pop up these days.

As to the combat shirts, I do not recall ever seeing one for sale.
