Fritz Posted August 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2013 Picked this up today from a picker friend, liner is named to an Edward O. Uhrig, the heat number looks like 1168E but hard to read, the cork finish underneath is still nice and bumpy so it wasn't sanded. Not a bad little lid. I'll get some more pics up later today. WWII_GI Posted August 4, 2013 Share #12 Posted August 4, 2013 Very nice helmet! I looks to be Korean War issue but I'm not sure
History Man Posted August 4, 2013 Share #13 Posted August 4, 2013 Nice piece, it looks very similar to the shipboard medical helmets from the 1950's and 1960's. Philip

Fritz Posted March 3, 2019 Author Share #17 Posted March 3, 2019 Here's a twist to this thread on my lid, was watching the National Geographic channel and they had a WW2 series on last week, one of them was on the bulge, caught this in one of the original film footage from Belgium, looks like its painted completely white with the cross like mine, makes me rethink this and possibly this is an army lid, the liner does have an army laundry number and full name on the webbing Fritz
Fritz Posted October 19, 2019 Author Share #18 Posted October 19, 2019 Any thoughts to my last post? With pics in actual footage from the bulge, this really makes me think this is an army medic lid Fritz
Burning Hazard Posted October 20, 2019 Share #19 Posted October 20, 2019 Korean war sweatband points more to post-war shipboard medical helmet.
Burning Hazard Posted October 20, 2019 Share #20 Posted October 20, 2019 I have a similar one I purchased from the vet, he said he wore it from 1949-1950 on USS Roberts.
Bugme Posted October 20, 2019 Share #21 Posted October 20, 2019 You said it was a rear seam so, likely not in the ETO in time for the Bulge. KW sweatband puts it into the 50's. Also, the white in your bulge photo was for winter camo purposes. After the bulge, these were repainted olive drab. Still thinking post WWII navy. Justin Posted October 20, 2019 Share #22 Posted October 20, 2019 The 50s sweatband says it all. It's still a really really nice set.

US medics are seen wearing full white helmets which were likely purposely painted for this exchange to make them more visible.
