What if D-Day had failed?

Very interesting read, have always liked the ' what if ' scenarios of history. Oddly enough, all my college professors looked down there nose at any such discussions which I never understood.

A failed D-Day: how does it affect our relationship with the Soviets? Even FDR would have to figure Uncle Joe would drive to the coast of France. So, whats to be done? Withhold or suspend all supply shipments to the Soviet Union until concessions are made with the Russians? How would it affect Russia's planned attack on the Japanese through China?

My biggest ' what if ' of the war: would Russia have been able to defeat the Germans without any American aid.

If D-Day failed the Russians would have swept through to Paris and we'd all be /socialists today. Hmmm. No comment.

France is already a socialist country....

Had D-Day failed, we would be all kameraden and USA would be the enemy. No Indochina, Korea, VN wars so no USMF. ;)

i disagree with the story completely !! if we had lost on DDAY i believe the russians would have been defeated if their was not a second front for the germans to fight on all power would have went to attacking the russian front, also all the positions and airfields we took and used to attack germay where vital, we took out their weapons and supplies, destroyed factories and moral of the people !! if this had not happened i think the germans would have crushed the russians also the germans would have had air superiority !

NO.....German, please. Remember.....we lost! :)

Well JS...as you alluded in your cars post above, Germany and Japan might have lost the war....but they won the peace for sure! A resurgent Germany calls the shots within the EU now!

I dunno.....Say if Stalin had pushed to the Atlantic coast and defeated the Wermacht, its hard to say how the US would have stood for that....and how Stalin would have behaved.

After all, we were well on our way to developing an Atomic weapon, as you all know. Even with the spying we were still 3 years ahead of the Soviets.

Interesting point... however the Russians had developed enough new technology to match the Germans. Plus the German's supplies would still be in decline. They would have run out of fuel and food by the end of 1945.

Give a communist/socialist an inch and they will take a yard. Then he would have blamed the overreach on someone else... that is what they do.

Of course Stalin would have continued to France or until the Allies had landed to meet them in early 1945 perhaps. We would not have used a nuclear weapon on the Russians in Europe.

How true... how ironic. If Japan stops its insane spending, then the future world super powers will be Germany, China, Japan and Russia.. Who would have thought that possible just 20 years ago. Very sad indeed.

i understand your point but i must say that if the germans had the equipment and man power they needed then i think they would have crushed russian forces at stalingrad , crossed the volga and then it is just a matter of search and destroy i beliee in this case they would have been able to take the oil fields needed !

Oh yes... properly equipped, man power, and with necessary supplies (not to mention anyone but Hitler directing the show)... the Germans would have destroyed the Russians. Heck... if the US supply lines had been cut the Russians would have collapsed.
