One of my favourite online dealers has had this belt listed for months and I finally decided to buy it b/c I gave my brother a similar 1966 dated belt. I was told it dated from 1965-1966 but when I received the belt I was pleased to see it's an early production, dated 1962.

There's seems to be a misconception among collectors that the vertical weave belts came out in 1966. But this belt and and a belt in Craig's collection http://www.usmilitar...?showtopic=2545 are clearly dated 1962. Plus many photos from 1966 and before show the vertical weave belt in use.

As a side note I also have a horizontal weave belt dated 1966 so it seems both types were made at the same time.

In addition to the standard M56 belt in verticle weave you also had the waist belt for the 1st pattern Lightweight Rucksack that was made in the same verticle pattern material. These also date to 1962. Everyone of these belts I have seen were made in the verticle pattern.

the vertical belt was'nt a new model...just a type variation

the same applies to the early & late M56 pouches...for the supply system were both the same simply the early model was late 50s & did'nt see the same extensive use in vietnam as the late mid 60s model bc simply the stocks of the early pattern had begin to exaust by then. fresh troops had fresh brand new pouches just out of the factory

Hello,

I discover this thread.
The vertical waves belt exist since the beginning. Indeed, I have already seen a belt dated 8/60 and here is a photo of the belt of EX54 (unfortunately not in my collection)
