bbmilitaria Posted May 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2013 What do you all think of this 2 piece 3" Navigator wing? I'm not a wing guy and am not familiar with the pattern. The detail showing through on the back seems a bit strange to me, but it is die struck. Any opinions welcome. Thanks, Mike
tomcatter Posted May 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2013 Wow, nice feathering! It seems to be a genuine 1930s-1940s pair of wings, but I'm not sure at 100%. Can you post a photo of the back?
bbmilitaria Posted May 22, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted May 22, 2013 Sorry, thought I had the photo of the back up also. Here it is.
MikeK Posted May 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 22, 2013 Hi Mike, This is one of the British pattern wings. From what I have read, this variation is post-WW2 (50s or later) but possibly available from PXs. I have a couple in this pattern (Pilot and Air Gunner) and, compared to WW2 vintage UK wings, they "feel and look weird" - different basemetal, different finish and using US-style hardware. pfrost Posted May 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 23, 2013 I believe Mike is spot on. I had a pilot badge in this pattern from a USAF guy (IIRC) stationed in England in the late 60's Patrick
