When military collecting and a psychic wife collide

I'm watching TV tonight in the living room (my office where I keep all my collection is off the living room with the door open across from where my wife is sitting) and she asks, "What branch of the service wears white pants and dark coats?" I said it was probably a navy officer, as the old Service Dress Blue Yankee uniform came to mind. Then I asked, "Why?" and she replies, "I think you know why." She goes on to tell me he is looking for his hat and that he is about 5' 8" and stocky. Apparently he is "hanging out" in my office. So, anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

I don't know if she uses her ability for profit or simply fun, but it would be interesting to see who else she might encounter in some of your fellow collector's store rooms.

For what it is worth, I have had items that I have acquired and then sold at the earliest opportunity based on a feeling about them. But no visions.. no yet anyway.

Not really the same problem, but I can't own original Third Reich stuff (unless it's part of a grouping to a GI who captured it) because it gives off evil "vibrations" to me.

Thanks for the replies, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I don't generally pick up on anything like that but she is very sensitive to it and occasionally I will add something to the collection that she will question. She's a believer in objects retaining energy from the past, and I don't know if anyone is familiar with the show "Haunted Collector" but she's a fan of John Zaffis. Now I don't know if I should request 'permission to enter' when going into my office, but I'll try to figure it out.

Everything in my war room is nothing more than tangible historical items whose previous owners are now passed on. I've never had even one questionable situation like this and I promise you that none of the previous owners have ever come back to claim them or try them back on. :)

Hey MattS,

You should enlist your wife's abilities to start a research business. You know...a sort of..."ask the veteran" endeavor?

"I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a** (edit), but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it." :D

Why pay for records?

Just kidding you. We've had "encounters" but nothing defined in the manner that your wife saw.

How about their family, have any of them tried to reclaim it? The livng ones that is,if any deceased family want it you may want to consider building a proton pack.

I wish she could communicate with the spirits she sees (we ought to buy a digital voice recorder), it would be interesting. It runs in my family but must have skipped me because my father had an experience as a child where he was put under for surgery and remembers flying a scout plane off an American ship (he can recall the feel of the parachute bouncing off the backs of his thighs as he stepped through the bulkheads, how disappointed he was to be assigned to a scout plane, and the smell of oil and mildew in the cockpit). He was launched, located the Japanese fleet, and was radioing his position when he got shot down. He woke up in the hospital as a navy pilot and started flirting with the nurse (keep in mind my dad was 10 at the time). She was shocked when he said, "Hiya beautiful, where have you been all my life?" When he looked down and saw how short his body was he thought. "Oh no, they've cut off my legs" and then he heard a voice in his head say, "It's all yours kid". He saw the pilot walking away down a tunnel, and he came to. The freaky part was the doctor later verified my dad (10 years old) was calling out Japanese ship types and positions using latitude and longitude during the surgery. Explain THAT!

If weird stuff ever happens at my place, I'll just leave them some lucky no filters and schlitz for the fellas.

A fella in the living history group I'm with has strange stuff happen in his war room. Has pics with strange shadows, uniforms and stuff gets moved around, cigarette smoke out of nowhere (and he don't smoke), dog acting funny in war room, and recently a compass went crazy. It was lined up with others, open, on a shelf and the one all by itself started spinning. He even recently moved but stuff is still going on.

We have had a number of threads where people have reported strange and odd things happening around their collections or at reenactments at historic sites.

Use the search term "paranormal" and you will turn up a number of them, including this golden oldie....

Be warned, we have had a fair number of hard nosed skeptics also comment on these topics.

Now that's one helluva an experience! I havent had any experiences with paranormal militaria but a friend of mine was "relic hunting" in some Eastern Front battlefields (cannot remember where exactly) and started hearing gunshots, tanks and vehicles moving/firing, men running and speaking both Russian and German; he told me he felt like he was in a warzone for most of the duration there. I have to check with him but I believe he still has the recording and you can clearly hear almost everything....

I believe to an extent that an object can retain "energy" from it's previous owner. Part of the reason I collect is that having the objects helps me to feel a connection of sorts. I've lived long enough to know that I don't know anything for certain and it's better to just keep an open mind in life. I don't recall anything unusual happening around my collection but it could make sense with certain items that were present during extremem situations. Either way...I like hearing the stories!

Third Herd

When we moved in this house, my oldest son claimed half the basement for a room. The third bedroom was a little room and part of my collection went in there and the rest in the other half of the basement.. After a few years the boys were moving my stuff out of the third bedroom to the basement and the older sons stuff into it. Years later after a few beers he said he moved because of a woman in white walking through his bedroom at night. The school across the alley has a ghost of a pioneer woman wearing blue, a janitor there would not go up on the second floor on the east side of the building after dark. My late wife volunteered me to check the school and lock up the church across the street from it. I never saw the ghost but locker doors would rattle behind me as I walked doen that hall, a door slam with no air movement and strange noises. Once on the first floor I had something sneeze behind me in a little room and I was the only person in the building. Some nights the church was noisy with the sounds of people sitting in the pews and they were empty. Sometimes I would see someone sitting in the pews out of the corner of my eye and when I turned to look no one was there. I went from there are no ghosts to there is something goimg on.

Lancaster bomber Ghost

S-Sugar is reputedly haunted and the apparition of a gunner has been reported manning one of the aircrafts gun turrets and the sounds of crewmen at work on the aircraft have apparently been recorded late at night.

There are also claims that the ghost of man who died whilst the museum was being constructed in the early 1970’s is said to be responsible for noises heard at night in galleries 3 and 9.

Here's an authentic and documented photo from the Army. This was even officially referred to as a: ghost, by the Army. What more proof do we need? Of course, I don't have one of these in my collection.
