easterneagle87 Posted May 6, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2013 Worked the night shift then got home and trolled Craigs List. Saw they were having a swap meet at the local civic center, so i forgo'd a little sleep and headed back to town. Not much military and passed on a couple items, well I could have picked up. BUT!!!..while checking for smalls, I found this really cool USMC brass buckle. Saw the EGA on the disk first, then when I picked it up I saw the disk was actually a Aussie or New Zealand penny as the background. In the back it is scratched what I believe to say, DR STAPP on top and New Zeland on the bottom. Am not sure if it is DR as in MD or supposed to be D.R. as initials. I think it is Stapp and not Staff. Cool little item anyway you slice it.

1940Desoto Posted May 6, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2013 Now that is a piece that I really appreciate, a great find well done. There is a Derald R Stapp listed as Headquarters and Service Battery, Fourth Battalion, Twelfth Marines, Third Marine Division. In January/February 1943 divisional elements of the 3rd MARDIV moved to Auckland, New Zealand from Camp Elliott so I think this is your man. teufelhunde.ret Posted May 6, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2013 Neat belt buckle! Stapp remained in the Marine Corps, he saw action in Korea as well. On the final muster reports available, he was listed as a Technical Sergeant, holding a Motor Transport MOS. He retired as a Gy.Sgt, Passed away in 96 and is buried in Riverside National Cemetery
JoJosPeace Posted July 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2014 Wow, thank you so much for posting this! DR Stapp was my Grandfather! USMC Lived by Camp Pendleton. I was looking for Camp Pendleton Rodeo info from the 1960's and early 70's because Grandpa was a Big Rodeo man then, and I came across this! I recognize the way he engraved the R on top of the D. Very Cool! Just in case you were interested, I attached a pic Thanks again! Jolie Stapp
