BILL THE PATCH

made my way into Vermont this past weekend, to antigue. found this neat little lot belonging to a col. pardon d. Watson. the women told me this was all that was left of his entire group. she said nobody wanted it, she said he had uniforms, coats etc etc. the box has a post mark of 1978, I guess from his retirement. the ribbon bar his beautiful, has a heavy brass back, says made in Austria (souval), also were three german medals, all war merit medals .2nd award plus extra ribbons and little pouch they came in. been out of the loop for awhile, trying to get back into the swing of things. my first pick up in a long time. post-11207-0-37243200-1365633321.jpg

That is a superb ribbon bar. I've owned lucite ones, but not maker marked before. This is definitely one for the pinned custom ribbons thread...

Yes, it's the French Croix de Guerre.

You can post it in the custom ribbons thread by clicking here and posting: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4777-custom-ribbon-bars-any-era/

Unfortunately, due to the foreign militaria shown, I cannot just merge the threads, so you'll have to repost it.

Thanks!

Dave

No, while posting foreign bring backs here is okay, selling them is still frowned upon. :)

I have posted one earlier that was marked "Bremerhaven" . Souval was a big medals maker. A lot of WW2 German badges are seen marked, "Roudolph Souval" , it is questionable if they were actual period pieces or post war production. Some say YES and some don't agree.

Name correction: Rudolf Souval, Wien, the manufacturer was a RzM contractor that produced insignia during the war.

I believe these lucite ribbons bars were made in the late 40's - early 50's, but could be incorrect. The markings are similar to what is found on wartime presentation boxes and award pouches.
