Amazing ! Checked the description to see if it belonged to Chesty Puller. It's nice, but sure went high. Not my money. SKIP

kriegsmodell

Well unless I'm mistaken it is an early thin peened pommel with blued blade and red/black spacers ..... And the condition is excellent which is not usually the case for these early ones ...... But Still, Good Grief! That's a lot of Coin!!

8 bidders but looks like 3 really wanted it.

There were five different bidders over $1,500!

For an early KA-BAR, (red spacers, blued finish), it appears to be in the best condition along with the sheath of any I've seen for sale. More than two really needed it for their collections. Wish my disposable income was in that network. :D

I just wish I could see the other side of it when someone's phone went ding from the email eBay sent saying it sold...then they see the hammer price! I have had a few items that did this before, that is why I love all kinds of auctions. Nice knife, but more than my budget could ever handle.

My Word! :wacko:Maybe I could see it if it was a Robeson Mark 2 USMC, but not a KaBar. Yes, it's in excellent condition and it is an early one with the red spacers, but still...

Its early but not one of the very first production knives.Believe those had the red/black/red spacers on the pommel

Great now everytime I see one in a mall it will be $2000.

With a printout of this auction taped to it, no doubt.

I just bought a KA-BAR / OLEAN, N.Y. - USMC MARK 2 knife exactly the same as this one with the exact same sheath for $370 on eBay. I must have got a good buy.

Nice knife.

I suspect the price you got it for has to do with the handle being worked on.

Looks like somebody scrubbed / wire-wheeled the middle half of the leather. May have had a name on it or something, as its missing the original finish and is raw leather.

Nice example though.

Brother, you are welcome to believe that.

I commented, as you made a comparison between your knife and the OP knife, and Im respectfully calling out whats different. I refrained from doing so when you originally posted it; and again, Im saying its a great knife - just looks fiddled with.

If you dont see a difference in the handles of the two knives, and a difference in the leather washers on yours, theres not much I can add.

The OP knife has a nice dark oxidization evenly across the handle - some call that color carbonized. It also has the original handle finish, which makes light reflect evenly across the entire length.

Yours is like that on the two ends, but there is a break at both first grooves, where the handle changes color and finish.

It has not been worked on or scrubbed. It is just like new.

As many on here will verify, Marines will polish anything anything that will stand still long enough to be polished. ESPECIALLY items that will be or were exposed to Salt Water such as knife handles.

Shinola or Kiwi shoe polish was undoubtably applied to that knife at some time and it is very possible the handle has dried a bit between the 2013 and 2018 pictures.

With all due respect to the experts who say not to, or to use only Pecards if you do, I personally think it is more logical to apply what was used in the first place if you want to restore the original look.

Were that mine (which I wish it was) I'd very lightly apply some Kiwi Ox-Blood shoe polish to restore the original finish - but then again, I was a Marine and it's standing still.
