Jumping ahead a few years, here's a 1925 Luke Field hanger dance invite prepared by the US Army Air Corps 11th Photo Section.

11th Photographic Section (75th Service Squadron) Luke Field (later at Wheeler Field as part of the 18th Composite Wing)

Honolulu Harbor. (These piers might be depicted from the air in frame #31 above?)

Yes Indeed, those are the Steamship piers at Aloha Tower (Old Customs House)

Here's a Feb. 4, 1926 dated 11th Photo Sec., shoreline photo of the Elks Club, Waikiki Beach.  Look at how clear the water is...

Nice photo of the Elks Club Rusty, it was demolished in 1959.  For those familiar with Waikiki, it was at the Diamond Head end, adjacent to Kapiolani Park, the Bandshell, and the Honolulu Zoo, close to the Natatorium (WWI Memorial)

Thank you for the excellent follow-up article on the Elks Club! I guess the value of the land superseded the desire to save that beautiful and iconic home...

I have several photographs in this album depicting a combined Army/Navy formal ceremony taking place in front of a Luke Field hanger. Unfortunately, these images are not dated and have no caption info. Since all of the other photos are from the 1924 to 1926 time period, I assume this ceremony occurred sometime during that same period? Are the two Asian dignitaries part of a Japanese envoy? I have more questions than answers...

Rusty,

Although Ford Island was turned over to the Air Service (until Wheeler Field and they Hickam were established) the Navy still had their seaplane squadrons based there too.

See my post #2 - Navy Seaplane in Hangar 17

Military courtesy dictated that the services routinely invited their counterparts to any ceremonies or dignitary visits to the Luke/Ford airfield.

This is either General Summerall or General Menoher, CG of the Hawaiian Division standing beside the Air Service CO.  Difficult to say as they resemble each other but someone will track down the awards to confirm the identity.

Super photos thanks for displaying them!  I would be 97% sure the two asian men are Japanese. I spent 3 of my early teen years on Hickam 1950 - 53. Always loved the Islands and planning one last trip there soon.
