GeneralCheese Posted March 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2013 I just got this on an old WWII Westinghouse liner, that had been covered up. After scratching away with a nickel for 45 minutes, I uncovered this. My google searches have found nothing. Does anyone know what unit this belongs to? It says "TO BUILD WITH GODS HELP", and on the other side it had another unknown symbol. Thanks for the help.
Geoff Posted March 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2013 This is the insignia of the 1902 Aviation Engineer Battalion, an Army Engineer unit that specialized in building aviation assets. They left San Francisco in February 1945, and served on Okinawa during the campaign there. I don't know much more about the unit than this. Hope it helps! Sabrejet Posted March 14, 2013 Share #4 Posted March 14, 2013 The red/white decal is the SCARWAF patch...Special Category Army With Air Force. Army aviation engineers temporarily assigned to duties with the Air Force.
patches Posted March 14, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2013 I believe this liner was worn during the Korean War period by this unit at Wolters AFB Texas. ( Despite this info on the page below, Camp Wolters renamed Wolters Air Force Base in 1951.) http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth25113/m1/4/
