Mitch Posted February 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2013 Hi , This photo may have been shown before but I think it is a nice study of USMC camo. It is from an album (LP) cover dated 1960. The picture is of the 1st Marine Div. Recon.Btn. in May , 1960 taking part in what was called Operation Big Top at Camp Pendleton. I just thought it was interesting and posted it here in the uniform section for discussion. If it has been posted before , sorry. If it needs to be moved or deleted, go ahead. sgtdorango Posted February 15, 2013 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2013 Nice photo!...can you tell if there are EGAs stenciled on the front of some of the helmet covers?......mike
Mitch Posted February 15, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted February 15, 2013 Hi Mike, I do not see any EGA's on any of the helmets. There may be something on the front of the helmet on the lead guy with the collar insignia (rank)or it may be just a shadow. whatever it is , it is not an EGA. Regards, Mitch Here is the inside of the album.

craig_pickrall Posted February 15, 2013 Share #7 Posted February 15, 2013 The Marine 2nd from left in the first photo is carrying that hog anti-tank rifle. Looks like it weighs about 50 pounds. It should be like the one below.

USMCRECON Posted February 16, 2013 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2013 I bought that same album while in boot camp at MCRD San Diego in 1966.
etienne Posted February 16, 2013 Share #10 Posted February 16, 2013 Very interesting photo ... I'm not surprised the marines still used frogskin camo in the early '60. Recently, I identified the owner of a P42 pair of trousers, and the owner was a member of Marine recon in the late '50.
