zsmith Posted February 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2013 Is this Seabee attached to a USMC unit?
subsystem4 Posted February 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2013 Could be. There were a number of navy units attached to the USMC during WWII. Seabees were only one example. The Marines relied on the Navy for medical units, engineers/demolitions, small boat/amphibious craft crew and maintenance units, and even some aircraft ground crew. navyman Posted February 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2013 Yes, these rate are for the marine greens. Usn personnel attach to marine units. They also had khaki rates for usn personnel attach to marine units. I have a uniform with one of these usn personnel attach to a marine unit. Also a example of a khaki rate. I post the uniform on this thread, I was using the auction photo's at the time. http://www.usmilitar...an#entry1168943
hink441 Posted February 17, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2013 They still use khaki rates for USMC uniforms.
firefighter Posted February 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2013 Are the Corpsman rates the only modern khakis? Seems like in WW2 the made them for the construction type rates also.
subsystem4 Posted February 18, 2013 Share #7 Posted February 18, 2013 I have seen radioman/ communication tech rates, dental tech rates, welfare/chaplain rates, and a couple others in khaki/green that were deff post war manufacture but I don't Know how recent they are. You see almost anything in the usmc colors for the WWII era including strikers for marine dress blues that the usmc wasn't authorized to wear. I think some manufacturers produced variations of rates in usmc colors in anticipation of contracts that may never have come.
