bellasilva Posted January 21, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2013 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1944-WWII-DOG-TAGS-PAIR-P1940-USMCR-Hebrew-/281054220303?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417023100f Research on ancestry lists him as a demolition crewman with the 6th Marine Division, FMF PAC (Fleet Marine Force, Pacific), Sixth Engineer Battalion, and then in July 1945 at a transient center in the Marianas. Also he is listed in the U.S. Navy combat casualties books, so it's almost certain he was wounded on Iwo. I would LOVE to have these but I can see this auction going up to the $200 or more range. ww2relichunter Posted January 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2013 try to bid you never know on ebay you either get really lucky or not so lucky depends on the day and who's looking
bellasilva Posted January 24, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted January 24, 2013 I will definitely bid, but I tend to lose hope when I see a bid on the first day of a 7 day auction. Seems like more and more buyers are researching ancestry and basing their bids on what they find. Not that I can be upset because that's what I do. I just finally found today a USMCR tag to a rifleman (first I've ever seen on ebay), already with a bid with 6 days to go.
Brig Posted January 24, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2013 Don't lose hope...lots of things get bid on early and then see no action until the last day

Keep your eyes open on sellers websites ... sometimes dogtags pop at reasonnable prices This year, I was able to find several dogtags, one is from a member of the company that took Mt Suribachi and another from a Marine who took part to the Southern Pacific campaigns (Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester).
