Alec Posted January 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2013 Early anti tank grenade I believe that is dated 5-42 and also an early Red Smoke grenade with a yellow ring. Note the smoke vent holes. I got it about 14 years ago from someone who knew nothing about it.

45ACP Posted January 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 12, 2013 The M1 rifle(Garand), M1 carbine, M1903 rifle, and M917 rifle all had grenade launching adapters that launch these grenades. Also the recoil pad was used because the troops were taught to fire from the shoulder a well. You can find pictures of troops firing from the shoulder. very cool rifle gerandes - what gun in 1942 ish would these be made for?

Thanks for the info - so the M1 garand needed the poppet valve (early 1944) plus the launching adapter? The reason I ask is because I have a dec 1943 garand with no poppet valve and I was wondering if I get an M7 adapter would it be a waste of money to display without the poppet valve (note I would not fire my garand with any grenades!!). ccyooper Posted January 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 14, 2013 Hello. Your M11 rifle grenade is an early training grenade. The other grenade is a variation of the smoke grenade, maybe an M22A2, etc. You may be able to read the print on the grenade which is not clear in the photo. If you want to display a M7 (correct for WWII) grenade launcher on your garand rifle you will need a poppet valve. The stem/stud on the back side of the grenade launcher will not fit into the old type of gas cylinder screw/plug. If it does the screw is a repo as the launcher stud was made larger so it would not fit. Thanks for sharing.
