garrettbragg12 Posted January 8, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2013 In my collection so far, I have a garand and carbine. My next step is a 1903 of done type, no specific preference. After looking around, the 1903-A4 clones made by Gibbs really caught my eye. I've read some reviews, but I'd really like to hear from you guys who have had hands on experience. Thanks! Charlie Flick Posted January 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2013 Garrett: If you are looking for a single example of a M1903 rifle to fill out your collection I would suggest that you look for a M1903A3 by Remington or Smithi Corona. They are still easy to find in nice shape, won't break the bank, shoot well, and will always hold their value. I would be leery of buying a replica/reproduction such as a Gibbs. Such weapons often are difficult to sell when the time comes and I question whether the value is there. In other words, my advice would be to get the real deal rather than a not-real deal. Regards, Charlie Flick I appreciate the advice Charlie. And your points were some of my main concerns... A) quality and all my weapons are 100% USGI, so I was really Hesitant about buying a weapon with so many repro parts! Big Al Posted January 9, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2013 I think I read somewhere that Gibbs uses (or possibly used) rewelded drill rifle receivers. I have also read that the finish is not real parkerizing but some kind of paint. Sure they look like a million bucks, but if I were you, I would take Charlie's advice and get a real GI Springfield. You will not regret it.
