Justin Posted January 2, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2013 The tag on this first pattern M1955 is unlike any I've seen before. Looks like a December 1954 date, yes? The color is more like the Korean War era M1952's rather then the Vietnam era M1955's. Obviously still a M1955 but made just after the Korean War? USMC_COLLECTOR Posted August 23, 2023 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2023 Hey even though this topic is over a decade old, and you almost definitely have gotten your answer by now I have some new light to shed on this topic. My buddy has another 1st pattern exactly like this one with the darker korean war nylon, so you were correct. A mid war USMC manufacture until they ran out of both tags and nylon. Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted September 13, 2023 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2023 I believe MCNPB is Marine Corps - Navy Publicity Bureau. Although admittedly it seems out of place on on body armor identically formatted numbers appear in the corners of recruiting posters and the like. I suspect these numbers are merely a part number for the tag itself with the date being when the text was published rather than anything to do with the production of the actual vest itself. But this is just a guess and I have never been able to confirm it.
