mdk014 Posted January 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2013 Almost $700 with a day left. Do these really run that much for a first model? Looks like two guys fighting over it on eBay. Is $700 going rate and if not what would it be? Item 290836532645 http://www.ebay.com/...d=290836532645
Survival Posted January 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2013 I don't know anything about the value of that but that is a dream auction for the seller!
doyler Posted January 1, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2013 I agree the seller is the winner here. These are not that uncommon and the price is not in line with ones I see...at all.I saw one a few months ago and passed on it for $90 and it was a size XL as well.I have seen them sit on tables unsold for $250 show after show from another dealer I know of and it was really nice condition. mdk014 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted January 1, 2013 Thanks all. Thats what I thought too and then saw the auction. Happy new year! Mike
Mack-the-Finger Posted January 1, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2013 For sure, when someone wants it bad, it gets it badly. Mine is a size Medium, very good shape, got to battle over it & got it for -if I correctly recall- some $115 + shipping. The worst, here, is when it comes to pass through the customs unscathed, which fortunately happened.
Justin Posted January 2, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 2, 2013 This is not the going price for these vest. I have an un-used one and I didnt pay anywhere near $700. Someone wants it bad and is paying the price.

combat-helmets Posted January 6, 2013 Share #11 Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks all. Thats what I thought too and then saw the auction. Happy new year! Mike Thanks guys for Posting this! I never got around to it. I was one of the guys watching this auction and I figured a couple hundred or so for the ending price but $700???? I'm after one of these 1st patterns for my early Vietnam display, and I thought it was me, but seeing others in amazement at this price confirms I still am sane.. Justin Posted January 6, 2013 Share #13 Posted January 6, 2013 Btw Justin.. Killer vest. But then again I have always come to expect quality items from you! How's the KW marine collection coming along? Thanks! Everything is complete besides a M1 bayonet and the second model vest, and torso uniforum, unfortunately just a few more things but that vest is going to be difficult. I did a basic rifle men. Korean war usmc ammo belt. 1 six pocket bandoleer. Two cross flap canteens, one jungle kit (small pouch under it) WWII suspendes, 1944 top roll haversack, shovel and rain poncho. I also have a two pocket grenade pouch but I didn't put it on the gear. My only question is if for 1952 - 53 if a t handle shovel would be the norm? it's only a torso display, the helmet is a minty 1953 dated cover and WWII shell. The cover is a sit in till I can find a nice WWII era one.
bargunner Posted January 6, 2013 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2013 Awesome vest Justin! I found a salty condition 1st pattern a couple weeks ago on eBay for around $100......way below $700. I have never seen the old M1910 e tool in use in Korea though. Maybe some ROKs had them?
Justin Posted January 6, 2013 Share #15 Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks Andrew, right now I have a 1945 folding shovel and 1943 cover on the pack, with the rain poncho tightly rolled under the pack with cargo straps. I was just curious if the T Handle was still in use during Korea.
BOLO Posted January 8, 2013 Share #16 Posted January 8, 2013 Im surprized a size medium would sell for $700 I would value it at around $100 - $125 max maybe a museum bought it for a special Vietnam war display?
Andrei Posted January 8, 2013 Share #17 Posted January 8, 2013 I paid mine $50 at the Great Western Show. Small and Medium are the ideal sizes for dummies. Don't buy Large and X-Large sizes if your plan is to set up a mannequin or torso. I know someone who has a XL size vest and he is not too happy with. Medium first patterns ALWAYS sell for more than large or XL. I prefer size medium myself. Way less first patterns show up for sale in this size. Please point me where I can buy a first pattern in size medium for $125, I'll take them all.

I was thinking of the second pattern, those are much easier to find
Andrei Posted January 24, 2013 Share #20 Posted January 24, 2013 Here is my flak vest... it is a size L... I thought it was a medium ! My 2nd pattern was a med and I foolishly sold it years ago. I did not zip it up on the mannequin. It does fit a tad loose but it's better than nothing. First pattern vests are so hard to get by.
