I've been rather idle the past few months, but I have another item for you all to look at :) I was finally able to get a M1952A flak vest that is in very good shape. This one was made by Stein Bros. and is dated 15 May, 1953 and still has the inspector's stamp. To the best of my knowledge, the M1952A was the standardized version that came out of all of the prototypes tested in Korea (hence the name M1952A rather than M1952).

There's that stamp again, the one with an Eagle in a circle, what was this again? I seem to recall and earlier back and forth on this stamp awhile back, can't remember which forum, the Firearms/Weapons forum, the Equipment forum? maybe it was uniforms?

I dont have one, it was somewhere here on U.S. Militaria forum that I think it was talked about, IIRC there was talk about why and when these stamps were put on certain items. I don't even remember which forum it was in, I was hoping it would ring a bell with others.

I think it's a DoD acceptance stamp ... also found on Garand stocks and some M1 helmet in the early 50s, and many military equipments, firearms, etc. until the 70s probably, I don't know exactly when its use was ended.

Right, here is that earlier topic I was referring to, the Photo Bucket on this has been unfortunetely deleted but it was the same stamp as here, as we see I thought it might have been a Army/Navy Store logo stamp, as a personel store stamp, used to show the item came from from the store. I guess it is a DOD stamp, as you are the third member to ID it as such.

A very nice, early production vest. The A in the model number actually means "Army". The USMC had standardized a new version of their Duron plate vest and designated it the M1952, before the Army was done with the testing of the T-52 series vests. Rather than confuse everybody by having two vests with the same designation, the Army just tacked on an A to indicate it was the Army type vest.

Tubby Tankman

Gidday all from New Zealand

Was clearing out a farm shed before it was going to be demolished, there were a bunch of Korean war/ Vietnam war armor vests (8 in total), mostly M-1952 As and Armor Body, Fragmentation with 3/4 collar but this one stood out having a different label, it reads 'Armor, Vest,, M-1952 - 3A (as per pic) Small.

I've seen a wealth of info on here re marine M1952s & army M1952-As but wasn't aware there were 3As and am guessing there were 2As as well?
