Received this yesterday.

I obtained it for a very reasonable price.

Described as a "Boot Knife".

No markings, the handle is not plastic, no sheath, in used condition.

Looks like an Utica "Sportsman" knife. They were very inexpensive knives, often given away in the 1950's and 1960's as prizes to boys with bike newspaper routes (like for selling the most newspapers). A lot of kids had them in their fishing tackle boxes. The etched markings usually came off after some use. Most of them had black plastic handles, but some of them had bone handles, like yours. Here are some on eBay now:

Thanks for the information.

I read somewhere that a type like this was also in use during the WWII period.

It is a somewhat heavy knife (it feels heavy) and no cheap construction.

Maybe someone here has a WWII example?

If it doesn't have any tang stamp there is a good chance it is a UTICA Sportsman like Gunbarrel said

I think the top one is Utica

It has a sort of "worm" type jigging as opposed to a wood grain type jigging like the middle one

I like them and you can get them on EBAY for dirt cheap

You're right they are heavy

They feel solid in the hand IMHO

Utica also had a "matching" hatchet that goes with some of the knives

There is a book on Civil War knives that has an Utica Sportsman listed as a Civil War knife think.gif
