Senator57 Posted February 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2008 I just wanted to canvas the community on what I believe to be post-WW2 wing hallmarks. Does anyone know what manufacturers used the following hallmarks: 2S, 11W and Sterling GP? I have enlisted aircrew and USAF navigator wings with the incised "2S" hallmark. I have another USAF navigator wing with an incised "Sterling 11W" hallmark and I've seen quite a few USAF Senior & Chief Aircrew wings with the raised "Sterling GP" hallmark. Any light you could shed on these mystery makers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Frank Link to comment
Tonomachi Posted February 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2008 The hallmark 2-S is the identity number for the manufacture Silverman Corporation, provenance, RI. This hallmark was used from 1954 through 1964. The hallmark 11-W is the identity number for the manufacture Western Military Supply Company, San Francisco, CA. I have another piece of reference which identifies this company as having insignia made in Japan. So the insignia was probably made in Japan and distributed out of San Francisco. The 2 digit number with letter (11-W) identity number was utilized post 1965. I don't know who made the insignia hallmarked STERLING GP. I have a clutch back basic US paratrooper wing in my collection with the same raised hallmark. Link to comment
