The War & Peace show at the Hop Farm, Beltring, is no more.

2013 will see the War & Peace Revival at the former RAF Westernhangar (Folkestone race course)

See you there!

I heard no word of the impending changes at Beltring last July Ashley....this has caught me completely by surprise I must say! Out of the ashes etc. It'll be a hard act to follow, for sure! For me it means and extra hour or so travelling time down to the coast. Oh well....c'est la vie!

This is news indeed....I had no idea they were moving the show. I see there is more of a focus on 'vintage' and I can't help but think by the title (I immediately thought of Goodwood Revival) they're trying to appeal to a wider audience and primarily people interested in vintage fashions, not just military. And I agree with Ian, further to travel as well. Perhaps there's more appeal to dealers and visitors on the continent with its close location to the coast.

Well...I've just booked three nights at the closest accommodation I could find (Channel Tunnel, Folkestone) It's the first weekend of the school summer hols so the world, his wife and their 2.5 kids will be headed for the Channel ports, so accommodation in the vicinity of the show will be at a premium!

Will...you're right about our continental neighbours. Our Belgian buddies will have a much shorter hop through the tunnel to Kent!!

Hi

Just had a quick chat with Andy, a letter has landed to all the traders today explaining the change...

Bizarly enough i am actually going to the last race meet at Folkstone next Tuesday with some customers.....

From what we have heard a 5 year contract has been signed for the site.

Access wise the site is right next to the M20, so i think it is a good move.

BUT....

This show has to make sure it delivers as it is such an important show for income.

Regards

Tom

I'm not familiar with the new site, but does it, or will it have the infra-structure we've become used to at the Hop Farm?

Hi

Don't know really, i will tell you next week....

The site is wide and open so will make it more of a show rather than a show with a huge campsite attached to it.

Let's face it, it is a money descion... The Hop Farm would have been taking their cut, and i don't believe they ever really invested in the show facility wise.

Regards

Tom

It's not quite as simple as that. Lets just say that the current management and ownership at the hop farm became "obstructive".

Facilities wise, I am told that they far exceed anything we had at the hop farm (in terms of site infrastructure, toilet provision, and bar and restaurant facilities. The railway station is a five minute walk from the platform to the show entrance.

More details will be released in due course, including site maps etc.

So they won't mind hundreds of tracked / wheeled vehicles churning up their landscaped racecourse?! :o

The racecourse is actually ceasing as a racecourse and will be turned into an events venue (a bit like a county showground).

I have already asked if we could have tank racing :D around the track, but was told no!

A potential rival for Detling showground then?

The site's over 230 acres, apparently. Not sure what to expect and there are bound to be teething problems.
It's a bit of a pain to have to drive another hour or so, but worth it to meet up with some european buddies.

And if Mr and Mrs Sabrejet want another trundle around in my Jeep they'll be more than welcome.

A long way from Aberystwyth!!

Did you go to Dynefwr Castle last year? That's a lot closer to home for you!
:)

I'll be missing the show this year but will eagerly await a report from those that attend. At Stoneleigh this weekend, I heard that the last War & Peace Show DVD will be on sale...I think it's an interesting choice of words and I'm anxious to see whether this marks a big change in the show, and who the show caters for going forward.

Yes it is, indeed! Even longer from Poland as I graduate from the University this year and I'm going back home! But that's not gonna stop me - I just need to grab my uniforms and I'm off to the W&P Show. I hope that the airport security officers won't mind my suitcase full of uniforms... ;)

No, unfortunately I didn't go to Dinefwr Castle. I'm stuck here in Aber with no car :D

I'm sure we could have arranged a lift from a Jeep!

Such a shame you're leaving God's country - there's quite a few re-enactor types in and around West Wales.

Here's some photos from Dinefwr http://g503.com/foru...inefwr#p1223874
