I already put my favorite line in post #65 so this has to be my second favorite line:

THE REGIMENT…

"They aren't forgotten because they haven't died. They're living right out there--Collingwood and the rest--and they'll keep on living as long as the regiment lives. The pay is $13 a month. The diet, beans and eggs--may be horsemeat before this campaign is over. They fight over cards or rot gut whiskey, but share the last drop in their canteens. The faces may change, names, but they're there. They're the regiment--the regular army--now and 50 years from now." John Wayne in Fort Apache (1948)

Hard to beat " I love the smell of Napalm in the morning." from Apocalypse Now.

One not so well known from the Devil's Brigade.

Canadian CO "There will be no more derogatory insults against the Yanks."

Canadian Corporal " Would ordinary insults be in order sir? "

The Creme of our WWII Army. :P

Got a few:

\

From Battleground:

"And now, Jerry permitting, let us pray."

"The Organist is hitting those base notes a little too loud to be heard...so let us each pray in his own way...to his own God."

"Drop another nickle into the jukebox will ya chum?" (Kipp Kippton)

From another great movie: Three Godfathers:

"Cut out that Mex lingo around the kid will ya Pete? first thing you know he'll be talking it. We gotta raise him with good ol American habla like his mom, now hand over the pot, we'll stick him up a might."

"Why you chili-dippin-horse-thief, stop talking Spanish in front of the kid."

I always loved the threat James Garner used in "Tank" when he told a NCO who Garner knew had beat up his kid that he would "destroy you in place" if he ever did it again. I used that exact line on a solider of mine once for the exact same reason (after I refused to sign him out at the MP station, I had to stand tall before the man for that the next day but it was worth it). I was not known as a officer who lost his temper easily or was prone to idle threats, so that Specialist's reaction to me telling him the same thing Garner said in that movie made it clear to me he believed me.

James Garner is good and that was a good movie. Thanks for the reminder on it now to dig the DvD out to watch it again.

Back in a previous life I worked for a furniture rental every once in awhile we had a young troop who thought there were better things to spend his pay on. My father who spent 22 years in the army told me to call his first sergeant. I would only do that if the soldier made a habit of not paying. But after the call it was only a day or two and the soldier was in the store with the money. I tried to work with them but after the third or fourth month of running them down I had to do something. The first sergeant was able to get their attention were I could not.

You know a friend of mine asked me before I got here; it's when we were all shipping out. He asked me "Why are you going to fight somebody else's war? What, do you think you're heroes?" I didn't know what to say at the time, but if he'd ask me again I'd say no. I'd say there's not way in hell. Nobody asks to be a hero.

It just sometimes turns out that way.SGT Eversmann Black Hawk Down

That was great willys,

Yeah, they really put a lot of detail into this movie. I liked the Brigade (or Divisional) command colors in his office as well for the ficticious unit patch. I bet the active duty folks that helped on this movie probably suggested that little detail.

I hadn't seen it for amny years, I didn't realize how good a movie it was aside from the Sherman tank scene...

The scene between Lieutenant Collins and Holman right after Holman shoots Pohan as he's being tortured to death on the beach.

post-34986-0-85001100-1363582680.jpg

Lieutenant Collins to Jake Holman:

Although I can understand your feelings, I can't condone what you did.

However, I choose to ignore it officially, on condition you request a transfer.

You're opposed to the entire spirit of the San Pablo, Holman. You,ve disrupted morale.

You,ve been involved in the two only deaths this ship has ever seen, and the men consider you a Jonah.

HEARTBREAK RIDGE starring Clint Eastwood

PRISONER: I don’t like soldier boys.

HIGHWAY: Say what?

PRISONER: If you want to pop that puppy's can, you don’t have to grease him so hard, jar head.

HIGHWAY: Sounds like you’re a man of experience.

PRISONER: What the :)'s that suppose to mean, grunt shinola?

HIGHWAY: It means be advised, I’m mean nasty and tired. I eat constintino wire and piss napalm, and I can put a round through a flea's rump at 200 meters. So you go and hump somebody else’s leg, mutt face, before I push yours in.

PRISONER: Ain’t going to be so smart with your balls stuffed in your mouth, jar head!

HIGHWAY: Hang on to this, boy. I think war's just been declared.

This has been popping up in my head for the last couple of years where I work:

“Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live”.

-Quintus Arrius, in ‘Ben Hur’

MAW, what is this from???

Kevin...this a contemporary British double-act known as Mitchell & Webb. They've had their own sketch shows and also appear in their own right in various other shows. Ex Cambridge Uni "Footlights" types, like the Pythons before them!
