carthage light guard Posted October 16, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2012 A portion of a recently acquired "yard long" photo of Company G, 9th Infantry, taken at Bendorf, Germany, in April 1919. Four DSC recipients are pictured, including the captain in the center. A number of Croix de Guerre recipients are present as well. American Decorations lists 6 members of Company G as DSC recipients (and a few more posthumously). Any suggestions as to how I might find identified DSC recipients in the 2nd Division and match them to those in the photo would be appreciated. patches Posted October 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2012 Can you see if they are at this date wearing their French Fouraggeres? can't really tell from the image here on our end, to far away.
carthage light guard Posted October 17, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted October 17, 2012 No, no fourrageres. Another interesting tidbit is that in looking through American Decorations, there were no officers in Company G awarded the DSC, so the captain in the photo was either awarded the medal while serving in another company, or was a Company G enlisted man who was commissioned after the award. patches Posted October 17, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2012 Thank's, I guess the award was made and worn shortly before the 2nd Division finally sailed for home and Camp Travis Texas in August 1919, that or it was awarded within the next few months, either in the late spring or in the earlier part of the summer. patches Posted September 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2013 This web page seems to answer the fourragere question. By Jove your right, see this topic, loads of 5th Marines in 1919, they to do not wear the French rope. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17104-5th-marine-wwi-photo/
