stepdale Posted October 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2012 Not sure where else to post this, but it seems like art should fit best in this section. I got this along with a 1918 US canteen from one of my newspaper ads. The folks I got it from bought them from someone who was about to sell them at a metal scrap yard. I'm glad they saved the items. From my research, this shell came commemorates the town of Varennes-en-Argonne and displays the town shield and a famous tower where King Louis was imprisoned during the French Revolution. The US 28th and elements of the 35th division fought there during the Meuse-Argonne campaign in 1918. I wish I could have tracked down info on the original owner, but no luck. Anyway, hope you enjoy it. I may sell it some day as I just can't keep everything, but it's so cool looking I'm not sure I can part with it.
