Seriously though, that is a great photo. nice detail on the insignia. With the HD chevron, I assume they are back stateside?

Could the flag be the German national colors rather than French? Reason I'm suggesting that is because the German merchant and national flag colors (not the battle flag) were black, white and red horizontal stripes, which this appears to be, rather than blue, white and red vertical stripes of the French tri-colors.
