Guest MK1_SWORD Posted February 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2008 HI, I AM NEW HERE. I AM LOOKING TO SEE IF ANYONE HERE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SWORD. WHEN I WAS FOUR I WAS GIVEN THIS SWORD ALONG WITH A USA FLAG WHEN MY FATHER DIED IN 1972. HE WAS IN THE MILITARY AND OWNED THIS SWORD. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I HAVE UPLOADED PICTURES AT THE LINK BELOW. http://www.myfolio.biz/sword/
Charlie Flick Posted February 10, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2008 Hello: Welcome to the Forum. What you have there is actually not a sword but US Model of 1905 Bayonet for the Model of 1903 .30 Springfield Rifle. It appears to have been plated at some time after it was made by the Springfield Armory in 1908. Plated bayonets were often used for parade and drill teams. The scabbard you have is for the US Navy Mark I training bayonet. This was a plastic 16" bayonet roughly identical to the Model of 1905. They were made only in WW2. It is possible that your pre-WW1 bayonet was mated up with your WW2 scabbard for parade purposes, but that is speculation. Hope that helps you.
