NATIONAL AIRBORNE DAY at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM) in downtown Fayetteville was a resounding success! Started the day with a jump demo by a combined team of Jumpers from the Black Daggers (SOCOM), 82d ABN DIV Freefall Activity, and the US Army Parachute Team - the Golden Knight. A ceremony was conducted immeduately afterwards & featured GEN(Ret) Dan K. McNeill as the guest speaker. Static displays both inside and outside featured the latest equipment and vehciles from the XVIII Airborne Corps, 82d ABN DIV, and SOCOM. The 82d ABN DIV Museum's own Living History Detachment (LHD) had its biggest showing in years, with 13 reenactors present for duty & traveling to the ASOM from parts of NC, SC, and from as far away as Atlanta! WWII reenactors included 504th, 505th, 325th and 551st, and a "misdrop' CPT from the 101st! Vietnam reenactors portrayed the 82d ABN's 3rd BDE, and we had a great Desert Shield/Storm display from a 3/73 AR Trooper who was actually there!

Wish I could have been there. My buddy, "Patrick Elie" of Normandy was in NC last week. Not sure if he's back in France as of yet. He was trying to go to Fayetteville, but I haven't heard if he got there or over to Pope. I told him to go to the Div Museum and the SOC museum on Hay Street. Patrick probably has the best website I've seen on D-Day: www.6juin1944.com
